Committee on Learning Environment Oversight (CLEO)
One of the most important priorities at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM) is to provide students with the very highest quality clinical learning experiences. Mistreatment of students is unacceptable an inconsistent with the commitment to zero tolerance for mistreatment of any kind, and of any form of retaliation against those who report mistreatment.
The Committee on Learning Environment Oversight (CLEO) is responsible for the review of student concerns regarding the learning environment and the development of action plans in response to episodes of alleged medical student mistreatment and to prevent future occurrences. The committee is composed of faculty, students, and administration that are dedicated to promoting a positive learning environment with a strong focus on specific and timely feedback and education.
CLEO Mission
- To foster a positive learning environment for all students, faculty, and staff in order to better serve the educational goals of the medical school.
- To promote the values of the Cultural North Star and high-quality patient care.
- To address student concerns about all forms of mistreatment and other behaviors which inhibit the creation and maintenance of an optimal learning environment.
- To promote, and eliminate barriers to, student reporting; including fear of retaliation, minimization of violations, or the belief that a report will not be acted upon.
- To provide ongoing education of students, faculty, and staff about the importance of optimizing the learning environment, reporting episodes that undermine the creation of an optimal learning environment, and adhering to the protocols and procedures of CLEO.
- To manage the actions taken in response to reported episodes of mistreatment.
- To maintain and analyze data regarding the learning environment, including student surveys, graduation questionnaires, course evaluations, and other data.
